About the Event
In this virtual/independent field trip, you will review how rice culture shaped the landscape of the ACE basin and learn about some of the species that utilize former rice impoundments. You'll start out watching a recorded lecture by Dr. Ernie Wiggars of the Nemours Wildlife Foundation and an episode of Coastal Kingdom about "Remarkable Birds". Then you'll go on a self-guided field trip to Bear Island and Donnelly WMAs. Bear Island is one of the premier birding destinations in the state, and is a fabulous place to visit from February-May. Donnelly is known for it's large population of alligators, so don't miss Lodge Pond! Master Naturalists may report your time spent completing this virtual field trip as Master Naturalist advanced training hours (not including travel time).
After registering, you will receive a link to join the google classroom and access the materials. You will need a google account to access the classroom (free to create if you don't already have one). The activities can be completed at any time.
