About the Event

Our presenter will be “our very own,” Tony Mills. Tony is a passionate naturalist and

educator who has worked in the field of environmental education for over four decades,

with an emphasis on southeastern animals. He strongly believes that an appreciation

and understanding of local habitats are essential for protecting the animals and plants

that live in them.

Tony is the Education Director for the Spring Island Trust, developing and co-teaching

the Lowcountry Master Naturalist Program and producing and conducting educational

programs for the public. He writes and hosts the Emmy award-winning nature program

“Coastal Kingdom” which airs on South Carolina Educational Television.

Tony conducts field studies on native snakes, turtles, lizards, and alligators and

collaborates with visiting scientists, students, and interns from universities across the

region. Although he spends a major portion of his time teaching, writing, and filming, he

maintains his passion for fieldwork, especially with reptiles and amphibians.

Tony will present, “Reptiles of the lowcountry”.

This will be for an entertaining and informative look at the lizards, turtles, snakes, and

crocodilians that live here in the low country. He will use lots of live animals and other

props to teach us about these remarkable animals and give us a chance to get up-close

and personal with them.
